November 2010

Our November ASC event started off with a trip to the Red Cross to donate blood.

Do you know how important it is to donate blood?  Here are some interesting facts.
  1. 4.5 million Americans will a need blood transfusion each year.
  2. Someone needs blood every two seconds.
  3. Only 37 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood – less than 10 percent do annually.
  4. About 1 in 7 people entering a hospital need blood.
  5. One pint of blood can save up to three lives.

I didn't think it would be such a good idea to take pictures in the blood donation center so I just have this one of outside.  Thanks Zak and Kat for waking up at the crack of dawn to donate blood with us!

After donating blood a bunch of us hopped in the car and drove to Delaware for the 25th annual Punkin' Chunkin'.  Yup.  For 25 years people from all over the country have come together to watch big machines throw pumpkins.

Our contest this time was to eat pumpkin foods.  Stacy won with a grand total of 13 including her ace in the hole - a pumpkin flavored dog biscuit.  Way to go Stacy!

The kids had a great time yelling at the huge air cannons, riding the rides and eating fair food.

No group shot this time but we did learn a lesson.  If you're going to take kids on a long car trip to walk around for five hours and eat junk, take the picture at the beginning of the day because at the end of the day they are dirty and crying.  Check out the slide show for more pics from the day.

Great time ASC!   Looking forward to another event in January!

Inaugural Event!

The very first Adventure Service Club event was a huge success!

The day began in the Food and Friends parking lot.

Matt Maloy gave out instructions and everyone got into groups.

Five cars went out into DC to deliver meals to AIDS, Cancer and other home bound patients.  The kids stepped up and worked right alongside the adults.

After serving the group met at the National Zoo for an adventure.  Everyone was given a list of zoo animals to find and a deadline to meet back together.  The kids took the adventure very seriously and spent a lot of time seeking out different animals.

Everyone had a fantastic time and we are all excited to join back together in November for the next event.
